Very often, jewelry starts it's life as a hunk of wax. Wax comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. I chose the appropriate wax tube for this ring design, and cut off a slice just wider than the diamonds to be set in it. Carving wax is rather hard but has a good degree of flexibility.
